The event begins on Friday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. with a free reception for artists and the community.  A silent auction will be held on Friday evening with proceeds benefiting future Treasures events and Calling All Artists, an initiative of the Arts Council.

Artwork will be displayed throughout the first floor of the Poydras Center.  Well known Baton Rouge artist Kathy Stone will curate the show and last year’s curator Della Storms will serve as judge.  Awards will include Best in Show, Judge’s Choice and Honorable Mention.

HFS students participate in Duke's Talent Search

HFS students participate in Duke's Talent Search

From Holy Family School

Several seventh grade students from Holy Family School participated in the Duke University Talent Identification Program’s 7th Grade Talent Search. Eligibility in the program is an honor, requiring exceptional academic ability. These students demonstrated a high level of achievement on tests.

Seventh grader Julie Louque qualified for Grand and State Recognition. She scored at or better than 90 percent of recent high school graduates who tested on at least one part of the ACT or the SAT. Julie will attend a special recognition ceremony at Duke University next week. Only about 3 percent of all the participants in the talent search qualify. This is quite an achievement!

Students earning state recognition scored at or above the national average of recent high school graduates on at least one part of the ACT or the SAT.

Man claims lottery prize from 2-month-old ticket

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB)- A 49-year-old
Louisiana man is richer after claiming a $250,000 Mega Millions prize, but it
took him two months to realize he was a winner.

"I just got around to checking my ticket," said an excited Joseph Pollet
Jr. of Plaquemine. "I can't wait to show my daughter the check. She's never
going to believe it!"

Pollet admitted he's still a little stunned himself about his luck.

He told lottery officials he plans to use the money to pay off his home and bills.

Pollet's ticket matched all five white balls drawn on March 2.

After taxes, he pocketed $175,000.

He bought his ticket from Phillip's Lane No. 454 on LA 1 South in Port
Allen.

The store received $2,500 for selling the winning ticket.
